The lens is probably one of the underrated or forgotten lenses in the Nikkor vintage lineup in my humble opinion and the fact. This lens released along with the Nikon F100 35mm film camera has become a very popular companion of the N80F80The 28-105 has been like my Swiss Army Knife of lenses. I bought mine from a seller on Nikon Cafe and it was near mint. Yes the edges are less sharp at wide open but become more acceptable once stopped down. In my opinion it beats the crap out of those all plastic 18-55s that entry level DSLRs come with today. If I export the NEF files as full size 3 MB JPGs then the difference is not as distinct.
12312018 The 28-105 appears to be every bit as sharp as the 28-85 was even out to the 105mm focal length.
It began producing in 1999. 9 pieces Front Filter Diameter. AF 28-105 mm f35-45D IF. 22 cm in macro mode at 105 mm Maximum. I use the D7000 and 28-105 in my daily job as a newspaper writer and photographer and rarely have to change to a different optic I dont do much sports work. A MOST POPULAR LENS.
