Mingus Creek Trail. Mingus Creek trail starts at the Mingus Mill on the NC side of the park between the Oconaluftee Visitor Center and Smokemont Campground. This hike begins and ends with the Mingus Creek Trail. There is an old grist mill there that I visited on my return. In order to get to the cemetery you must hike along the Mingus Creek Trail for about 25 miles. The trail starts at the end of the parking lot and is also a road for the first part. There are several wide and sturdy bridges and the the trail. This trail goes by Newton Bald 52 and 51. There are a couple of trail marks along the way that will let you know if you are still headed in the right direction. The trailhead is the parking area for Mingus Mill located on New Found Gap Road near the Oconaluftee Visitor Center on the Cherokee side of the Park. Coming out of Campsite 52 near Newton Bald and the Newton Bald Trail intersection Mingus Creek Trail runs 33 miles down to the intersection of Deeplow Gap Trail from the Deep Creek area.
